Little Explanation about Proxy Networks

This article provides additional information about new fresh proxies and proxy networks.

It is within the corporate network or university. Within a company or a university located in a single specific location somewhere in the world, the classic pattern is as follows: There is a DNS server with a good firewall, antivirus and a number of filters that is connected to the internet and all university computers or business are connected to this computer.

Indeed, with globalization, businesses are sites located throughout the world, and universities are networking. This requires more complex network diagrams, to allow engineers working at opposite ends of the world to exchange data as if they were in the same building without security concerns.

In the meantime there are still many cases where the pattern of which I speak is valid. In this scheme the computer connected to the Internet acts as a proxy for all computers on the network behind it. In this context, a direct connection to the internet is not possible.

The first solution is to configure your computer so that it passes through the proxy and specify the browser to adopt the system parameters. In general, this solution is adopted for people who connect from a laptop. Indeed stations are administered by the department, so they either have already been configured, in which case, and it’s better for you, or they have not been, but as a regular user, you do the rights required to do.

The second solution is to configure the proxy directly in the web browser, where possible.

We will examine the case of Firefox:

  • Open the Preferences menu. Depending on the version of Firefox you are using, it is available in the edition menu or the Tools menu.

  • Now you need to find the network settings button. In older versions of Firefox, it was visible on the first page of the Preferences menu. Now you must navigate a little, but it is not very difficult.

  • Click the Settings button. A new menu appears. Here is the list of possibilities and their usefulness:

1-    No proxy. This option is usually checked by default shows a direct connection to the Internet.

2-    Automatic proxy detection. This option can work if the network administrator has installed the corresponding service on the server.

3-    Use system proxy settings. This is the case that we mentioned above. Requires that the proxy system has been configured.

4-    Manual configuration. This is what we will detail now.

5-    Address automatic proxy configuration. Similar case 2.

We’ll manually configure new fresh proxies

You need to know the proxy address and port number. If your computer is on the same subnet as the server, simply put “proxy” will suffice. As for the port numbers the 3128, is often used, you can always try. If you are not on the same subnet as the server, you will have to complete the address of the proxy.
