In fact, for security reasons some websites are blocked if they contain images, videos or texts that might offend the sensibilities of some people or which do not correspond to a technical or educational use.
By searching several forums, it appears that many students use custom proxies or anonymous proxies to bypass the filters. It was found that many students also explained that it is possible to bypass filters, using software running on a USB drive or add-on that can be installed on web browsers.
A proxy server, also called “proxy” is either a machine or a module acting as an intermediary between computers on a local network and Internet. It is a server “mandated” by an application to query in the Internet instead. When a user connects to the Internet using a client application (Internet Browser) configured to use a proxy server, it will connect first to the proxy server and give him his request. The proxy server will then connect to the server (search engine or website) that the client application tries to join and send him the request. The server will then give its response to the proxy, which in turn will send it to the client application. Most of the time the proxy server is used for the web, then it is an http proxy.
Operation of new fresh proxies
Most of new fresh proxies provide a cache function, that is to say the ability to remember which pages are most often visited by LAN users in order to provide them as quickly as possible. A proxy server has the ability to hide “cache” information is usually called “proxy-cache”. This feature allows to reduce the use of bandwidth to the Internet as well as to reduce the access time to documents for users. It is possible to track connections through the creation of activity logs. In the systematic recording of user queries in their requests to connect to the internet it is possible to filter Internet connections by analyzing the client requests and also the server responses. Analysis of server responses made in accordance with a list of criteria (keywords) is called “content filtering”
– Anonymous Proxy
Unlike the proxy the anonymous proxy serves to bypass filters. Consider the case of a website considered not corresponding to pedagogical and technical use, but it performs filtering URL blacklist.
Using a proxy as an intermediary can overcome this filtering by not returning the real address of the site you requested.
